KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 23 (Bernama) -- The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) will consider whether it is fitting to send a women's football team to the 26th SEA Games in Palembang, Indonesia from Nov 11-25 if the event is reincluded in the Games.

FAM secretary-general Datuk Azzuddin Ahmad said besides having to consider the unpreparedness of the Malaysian women's football squad to compete in a major competition, the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) had also informed that the event had been dropped from the biennial Games.

"However, it was said that the OCM would be appealing to Indonesia to bring back the event into the SEA Games.

"If this happens, FAM is prepared to consider fielding a women's football team at the Games," he said when contacted, here, Wednesday.

Hosts Indonesia are expected to announce the final list of events to be offered this time at the SEA Games Federation meeting in Bali this Friday.

As women's football is among the events to have been dropped from this coming SEA Games, the OCM with the support of Laos and Thailand, is expected to propose to Indonesia to reinclude the event.

After the embarrassingly poor performance of the Malaysian women's football squad at the 2009 SEA Games in Laos, trounced 14-0 by Thailand and 8-0 by Vietnam, FAM was said to have suspended the squad from competing in any international competition.

Azzuddin said FAM actually had never suspended the squad but wanted to build a strong one first before it could compete in any major tournament.
