Singapore Cup Draw Reunites Old Friends

Geylang United v Tampines Rovers
Home United v Woodlands Wellington
Etoile v Tanjong Pagar
Gombak United v Balestier Khalsa
SAFFC v Phnom Penh Crown
South Melbourne v Albirex Niigata
Hougang United v Young Tigers
Pattaya United v Okkthar United

Five foreign teams this year, well seven if you include Etoile and Albirex Niigata. No Young Lions which is odd. They will be competing in the ASEAN Football Federation Cup Under 23s in Palembang but that's in July.

Holders Bangkok Glass not defending the trophy they won last season, instead Thailand represented by Pattaya United who feature Kengne Ludovic and Gabriel Obatola, formerly Home United and Gombak United.

Okkthar United from Myanmar enter for the first time and they are coached by former Home United coach PN Srivaji. Good to see South Melbourne return as well. They have a place in my personal football folklore being involved in the highest scoring game I have witnessed. They deat Wollongong Macedonia 7-3 in the old NSL.

Phnom Penh Crown of course are a familiar name in the Singapore Cup. Last season they took the lead against Etoile before eventually bowing out 2-1. They also feature a familiar name in Kingsley Njoku who played alongside Obatola at Gombak United.

No dates announced for the ties though competition starts next month.
